Frequently Asked Questions
How long after submitting my resume will it I have to wait for work?

After we receive your resume we will review your skills and work history to determine if you qualify for any of our available positions. Some positions will require immediate staffing but the time frame for placement varies depending on your skills and our current available positions. If there are no current positions available for you we will keep your application on file for 90 days, after which you will need to re-submit your resume via email. Please refer to our STEP-BY-STEP page to get full details on our placement process and procedures.
What documentation do I need to apply?
To apply for an opportunity with NSS you will need to submit your resume via email, obtain a federal bonding letter, and a copy of a recent background check or veterans verification documents (when applicable). Other documentation may be required depending on the project/placement. Additional information may be requested at the discretion of the employer.
Why do I need a Federal Bonding Letter?
The Federal Bonding Letter provides potential employers with the assurance that they are covered in the event that any unforeseen events or mishaps occur while you are employed with their company. It also gives you, as an applicant, leverage to secure a position in the workforce by alleviating doubts and misconceptions associated with hiring ex-offenders.
What are the incentives for companies to employee veterans and ex-offenders?

There are several incentives that are available to companies that employ veterans and ex-offenders. The Department of Veterans Affairs offers the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) to businesses that employ veterans who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment. The Special Employer Incentives (SEI) program offers benefits for employing qualified veterans as well. For ex-offenders, the US Department of Labor has developed the Federal Bonding Program to give employers the insurance needed to confidently staff ex-offenders that are qualified for the positions you need filled. In addition, there are also tax credits for businesses that employ ex-offenders. The most lucrative of all the incentives is the opportunity to contribute to revitalizing our communities- one person, one job, one nation.
Can I still apply if I am not a veteran or ex-offender?

Yes. While we will never turn away a resume, please note that our priority is servicing individuals that have consistently faced obstacles in the search for employment.
